I think most of my bikes had a very slight pad contact spinning on the stand with no drag at all .. seems to be normal

The pulsing may be when the piston doesn’t retract quickly and completely even like it’s supposed to .. the lowest piston is the one usually partially submerged in old fluid and moisture .. or maybe it just needed a good brake flush and bleed

Yea that would be awesome of it's just a caliper cleaning. My front tire was also the worst cupped we have ever seen but it was very hard to notice in my overhead garage lighting where I usually check the bike over. I must have been riding like that for awhile. One of my buddies noticed the cupping when the sun was hitting it from the side and the cups were casting a shadow.. maybe the cupping in low speed decel was also contributing?

What brand/make is that tyre? It looks like (maybe only in the picture) the cupping pattern is in perfect sync with the tread pattern, amd if that's the case, my guess would be that tyre construction has been the cause.

post #28 by pekingduck: I use a Harbor Freight balancer too, but I don't balance them with the wheel spacers in place, I go right up against the bearings. I find the wheel bearings have less friction than the balancer bearings. That's on newer wheels, with fresher grease.

Never having balanced a tire, how does that balancer work? How do you know where to put the weights? Inquiring minds want to know

1. So very straight forward, you spin the tire and wait for it to settle. The heaviest point will always settle at the bottom. I take a wax stick or marker and mark the top most point.

2. I then spin it again 2 more times to make sure it constantly settles in the correct place.

3. I will the usually take 2 weights (1/4oz in my case) and BLUE TAPE THEM to the rim. (DO NOT ADHERE THE WEIGHTS YET INCASE YOU ADD TO MANY)

4. You then turn the top point (with the weights) 90° to the left or right (doesnt matter). Let it go and see if it moves.

- If the weights move lower towards the bottom than you added to much.
-If the weights moved towards the top then it's not enough weight.

5. You repeat the process as add another weight until you can move the the wheel in any and all positions without it moving out of place.

That's when you know the the tire is perfectly balanced because there is no heavy spot trying to shift to a lower point of gravity.

6. When you figure out how many weights was perfect you can then take them off the tape, remove the double sided tape plastic from the back of the weights. And adhere them perfectly center to that top mark you made previously.

***Its very important to center the line of weights to that mark you made at the top (the lightest point) to replicate your results without variation. So that when you go to finally adhere the weights in place it's still perfectly balanced.
