Hey guys!
I'm a proud new owner of a 2014 CB1100 (bought it about a month ago). What a great bike. I traded in my Yamaha Bolt XV950 (great bike btw, if you're into the vtwin air-cooled sportster style). The build quality of the CB1100 is amazing, I am loving this bike so much. It feels like a precise swiss watch when I ride it, all the mechanical parts just feel right in place and clicks right in (if that makes any sense). The CB is my new daily.
My other bike is a Aprilia Tuono V4, a total beast but actually very easy to ride.
Anyway, for those that don't like the stock mirrors, I actually went with the Yamaha Bolt mirrors and it fits perfect. I had to use 2 left hand Yamaha mirrors because the right hand mirror for the Yamaha is actually slightly shorter for some strange reason and the right side Yamaha is also reverse thread, so using 2 lefts is the way to go. Just a suggestion for those that are looking for aftermarket mirrors. I didn't mind the stock mirrors but I like the Yamaha mirrors better, plus I was already very familiar with them from my old bike. Anyway, I have some parts already on the way and can't wait to install them (arrow slip and chick design rear fender).

Just out of curiosity, what has the Aprilia ownership experience been like?

Hey, Mike, welcome, and what a great pair of bikes! The Tuono is on my short list for next bike. BTW, were the pix of the Aprilia taken on The Crest? I keep a Speed Triple out there near Pro Italia, and come out West to ride regularly, so perhaps we can connect. Again, welcome and congrats.

Howdy Mike and welcome. I like the Bolt mirrors, nice mod that goes well with the 2014 STD.

The Aprilia is great, different animal as you can imagine. Surprisingly easy to ride and the V4 motor is one of my favorite parts of the bike. And the sound is intoxicating (especially with the Arrow GP exhaust sans cat). I commute daily to downtown LA (fun!) and the CB is obviously way easier to manage in rush hour, although the Tuono ain't that bad either in traffic but the bike just constantly feels like it desperately needs to stretch it's legs out.
With the CB I feel like I can push it harder on a regular basis, whereas the Tuono, I have to really pick and choose an open road/canyon to really open it up.

Hey Capo! Thanks!! I highly recommend the Tuono, go test it out sometime if you haven't already. I also tried out other Ducatis at the time (which I love as well) but at the end, that V4 motor really sold me. It's like a mix of inline 4 and Vtwin combined. Raspy, raw and deep but screams up top as well.
And yes, those pics are from Angeles Crest! I go there very frequently since I live only 20 minutes away.
Definitely let me know when you are in town!

Thanks! I think I may be the first to discover the Bolt mirrors on the CB! I highly recommend it! And you can pick between chrome and black. Visibility is great (does not shake), you can adjust the mirror up and down as well as forward and backwards. Plus it's made of metal, not plastic.

Andy ( ok NOT Mike lol) ... Obviously fun to ride..but what about reliability, prats availability, dealing with Aprilia on warranty work etc? That's what I meant by ownership experience. I have a buddy that just traded in his Tuono for a Suzuki V strom 1000. He said the Tuono was fun of you were railing it, but basically only if you were railing it. He said his bike had some elect gremlins when new, but they got it sorted out. The nearest dealer to me is 2 1/2 hours away.

Reliability is good so far but needless to say the Honda will most likely be more reliable, easier (and cheaper) to maintain etc. The key with Aprilias is to have a good (and preferably local) dealer; that could make a huge difference. Some Tuonos (V4R) have experienced a few minor issues such as tank expansion (due to ethanol in gas) and stator burning out, but there are already known fixes to those problem that's not too pricey. Plus all covered under the two-year warranty.
Someone on the Aprilia forums already has 50K miles, which really is not a lot, but so far so good. The V4's only came out a few years ago.
It's the nature of the beast; it's Italian, super high performance, exotic etc. But the reliability is still pretty good considering. Again, the key with these bikes is all about dealer network.

Yea my son has a Ducati so we are familiar with Italian super models lol. Trouble for us is no good local dealers. Any service work requires 2 150 mile trailer rides separated by a week or two, one to drop off and one to pick back up. That and his hasn't been the most reliable Ducati ever made.

Welcome to the forum Andy! Great looking bikes although I think an Italian superbike would be too much for me to handle at my age!

Thanks curlyjoe!! You'd be surprised how smooth the fueling/throttle is on the Tuono. And also, the electronics ("safety net") is one of the best out there (on APRC models); traction control, ABS, launch control, wheelie control, butt-clench control (haha) etc. Riding position is a little on the aggressive side but not bad compared to a supersport.
