Rode my three week old 2014 CB to a friends' wedding reception last night. Got tons of rave reviews on the beauty of the machine. Once home again, and parking in my very dark driveway, I put the kickstand down...oops! wait...the kickstand didn't go all the way down, and I leaned her as I normally would do except it didn't stop! All the way to the ground! I did my best to try and hold her up, but her mighty girth was too much for me. UGH! Broke the clutch lever, scuffed the bar end, and marred the left crankcase cover. I nearly cried.
Never again will I trust that sound of my kickstand going down. Gonna check it every single time from now on.
Went in the house and immediately ordered the new clutch lever from Honda Partshouse. Going wait a bit on the crankcase cover, and maybe just get some touch-up paint for it until I get the guts to do the replacement procedure. BTW, does anyone know what that task entails? It appears like it should be pretty straight forward, but nothing is as easy as it appears it would seem. Heck, even putting the darn kickstand down is a wonder for me!
Thanks in advance for any help!

I did that too, only was able to mostly hold it up. Did scratch the bottom of the crankcase cover, and the edge of the center stand tang. Never bothered to replace them. Mine's a draft horse, not a show horse. Oh it's also got little rock chips in the paint in the front of the tank. Not replacing it either. If that's all the scars it ever gets, I would be thrilled, but certainly expect it to get more over it's lifetime.

MI' m the next member of this club.
I had bought the CB and a few weeks later was on the way to a gasoline station. It started to rain. To park the bike I wanted to put it on the center stand but my slippery wet left shoe found no hold on the stand and off the Honda fall to the ground on it's right side. The engine cover was scratched and the break pedal went out of place, which could be adjusted. I polished the scratches as good as I could and painted them with some silver engine color. The next thing I did, I mounted engine crash bars.
The second but not the last time, the CB parked on it's sidestand on a kind of lawn. A piece a wood should prevent it from sinking in. After a while I heard a loud sound, the wood cracked and the CB was lying on it's left side in the grass. The clutch levler was broken. No other injuries, which are worth to be mentioned.
It's last fall down had the Honda on a ferry in Norway.
I parked the fully packed bike on the center stand, a crewmember gave his okay for being save enough, but it wasn't. The waves made it move and let it fall over.
The crashbars again and the stuffed saddlebags helped to keep the CB in shape, except the windscreen got slighty scratched and went out of place.
I'm not glad about these roadlife trophies, but they make the Honda personal, individual and remind me to be more careful.

On the ferry, I'm surprised the crew member didn't advise you to park it on the sidestand. Sorry to hear your bike has been on its side so many times.

Hate it happened to you , these things are top heavy especially with a full tank - mine 4.7 gal.
I park mine next to my F355 Spider and almost lost it once , it was close.
carry a jumbo oyster shell in my jacket pocket for parking on grass , kinda redneck but fitting for my personality

The accidents sound more dramatic as they were when I look back. All in all the CB looks good and is far away from looking damaged. So I don't worry much about them. The Honda is a little top heavy and becomes it more with a good loaded tank bag. The young female instructor on the ferry was not experienced enough to judge the situation properly. I would have tightened the Honda with strapes, but she said I shoudn't. Afterwards I knew what would have worked.

Hello Nate, I had to replace the stator cover (left side). The biggest thing is the magnets inside are pretty strong, once all the bolts are out you have to gently pry the cover off. Got mine from Babbits cost was around $85.

Thanks! That's where I was looking as well. So is it just that straight forward? Remove the bolts, clean up the sealer residue and replace? No other nonsense to contend with?
Appreciate the help!

Sorry to hear about your mishap, Nateoh.
A couple of years back I parked my CB750 in my brother's garage. As we were heading to go somewhere in his truck, my brother asked if my kickstand was supposed to look like that. I looked up and noticed that the stand had only gone 3/4 of the way down and the bike was balanced on the tip of the stand. I can't believe how lucky I was that it didn't go over (the bike hasn't taken a fall in the 21 yrs. since I bought it new).
Since then, on either CB, instead of kicking the stand down, I push it all the way down with my foot until it locks in position. I've noticed that if you don't kick it down hard enough, it snaps back up, but makes the same sound as though it fully extended.
Sounds like you got off relatively easy. Since you've got the black engine, the touch up paint might be all you need.

Me too. I left home early one morning and rode a couple of hundred kilometres before stopping for petrol. It was colder than I expected. After filling the bike with petrol I moved over to the car park so I could use the facilities. I stopped at the line between asphalt and grass and clean forgot to put the side stand down. I tried really, really hard, but just couldn't hold the bike up. It came to rest gently on the ground with no real harm done.
NateOh, there are descriptions by Pterodactyl of a restore job he did on one of his crankcase covers here, http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2802 and here, http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2802]http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2802 and here, [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7383&pid=112559#pid112559.[/url]
