Booster Plug on an RS
#1
I install two days ago a Booster Plug-Denmark on my 2017 RS; simple and intuitive plug and play gadget, no "check engine". First day I've noticed a smoothness at on/off throttle , some fuller acceleration, seems little less vibrations over 2500 rpm. Next day... it seems not anymore quite the same, I feel vibrations again and behave not so smooth at accel/decel; all test are in urban conditions. Is somebody here who install/use this gadget and knows more tips & tricks about how to proceed more effectively to make the ECU learn/understand the new way of reading more efficiently, apart from those presented in the manual?

Apparently no one on this forum has experience with this Booster-Plug.

My 2014 had zero issues for 12,500 miles in 10 months: Smooth operation off idle, no hesitation, 0-60 MPH in 3.3 seconds, decent fuel economy.

What symptoms did you have prompting the purchase?

The basic idea of the Booster-Plug is to send modified data to the ECU, indicating cooler intake ambient temperature than actual, causing the ECM to provide a richer mixture in open loop. Most of the time ECU is provided closed loop data, so the Booster-Plug should have no effect in that mode.

My first fuel injected bike was a 2012 Triumph Bonneville. Research indicated some off idle hesitation, so before delivery I asked for an "Arrow Tune" intended for a less restrictive Arrow exhaust. No hesitation, but do not know if the Arrow Tune was necessary.

Since then, 2 Yamaha XT250s (flawless FI), 2 Yamaha XVS950 (flawless FI), another Bonneville (flawless FI), 2 Moto Guzzis: The V7 was VERY cold blooded, even with a warm engine, the V7-850 was not flawless, but decent.

No idea why the fuel mixture would affect vibrations, but the balance shaft backlash adjuster would.

So, the question remains, why the purchase? Can you get a refund?

I'm not so happy/lucky as most of you are! I have basically considerable vibrations between 2500-5000 rpm and hesitations/bogging accel/decell at low urban starts/stops(quite common I've heard, on this lean fuel moto with Eur 4) so, I do my best. That's why I  decide to try this Booster Plug(too), hoping that this issues become mitigated somehow.  I know very well what the Booster do, it's not a miracle but the ideea to trick the OEM air temp. sensor and enrich the mixture it can only be beneficial. That's why I ask here for some tips/experiences(!?) regarding the ECU learning procedure, something in addition then what the manual said: "start on cold engine for 10 min, don't touch the accel, then stop and start... etc", maybe somebody can help.

The balance shaft backlash adjuster only affects the gear backlash (clearance) so probably no affect on vibration (only noise), but fuel mixture should not affect vibration. After riding Sportsters, any vibration on the CB1100 is not noticeable!

I can relate to that Doc. An advantage of having and riding my Vintage Honda CB77 makes my CB1100 feel flawless in every aspect.

2014 Honda CB1100 Standard
1967 Honda CB77 Superhawk

Was there a throttle reset procedure I remember someone talking about? Open and close throttle slowly 3 times with ignition on but no engine start?

Yes, I've done it too!   Thumbs Up
