2014 Shift Lever Extension Modification, Replacement?
#1

Hello all,
I got a new pair of boots and have an issue with shifting, of course. I've already made the adjustment so that my boot slips under the shift pedal but I have to angle the boot tip inward to get a good fit or miss a shift and that's a bit awkward off a stop. Has anyone replaced their shift lever or have another fix that works for you in order to extend the lever up to an inch longer? Thank you.

You want to extend the tip that you lift and not the lever itself right?

I've thought about that on a couple bikes. The only way I could think to do it is have a welder weld some rod on there and cover it with one of those rubber shifter covers from the 70s

Yes, the toe pad or whatever the correct nomenclature is. I know they make an extension held on by a set screw for a BMW. I'll have to do some measuring. I just don't need the pad thicker than it is already for my big boot toe to fit under it and adjusting the pedal higher makes it uncomfortable to rest on the foot peg with my foot arched higher up. Maybe a stiff piece of garden hose or similar tubing but that's rather unsightly. Annoying but nothing too bad. Thanks.

I replaced the rubber piece with one from the 70's. It makes it a little easier....

Thanks. I found this one and ordered it a few weeks ago. It's on a really slow boat but given the price you get what you pay for. I ordered and received a replacement rubber pad just in case I end up mutilating it on the installation. That came in just a few days of ordering.

When I had the Aprilia Shiver, it had a rear brake pedal that was bent in so rear braking was uncomfortable. I extended the pedal out with a piece of pvc, a bottle cap screwed onto it, and held with a hose clamp on a slanted cut so it would bear on the pvc and on the rod. It worked great. Not exactly Roland Sands, but, hey, it worked.

The Shiver was a tight fit for me. But man, it otherwise felt good.

Here is the finished installation. It isn't a big deal but should make it more comfortable for those like me with thick toed boots and shifting. I didn't take a before picture unfortunately but it does extend the shift pedal almost 50%. The inside diameter of the extension didn't allow for a simple slide on over the rubber boot but I don't have to bother with the set screws that were included with the extension. It is larger than the pedal metal pin however. It can be easily be configured back to stock. To fit it on I pulled the rubber toe shift boot just a bit off the peg, sprayed it with silicon, stuffed the edge into the extension, and the extension did press on easily enough. It is very snug. I don't know how long the rubber rings around the extension will last or slide off. I may just keep a center one in place to keep the boot from being marked by the split metal of the ext. The extension does rotate well enough should shifting require it.

I think the picture might exaggerate it a bit. The actual dimension of the metal is 2 3/4" long and 7/8" in diameter.
