Crankcase over filled

Lol shdwghst: my mom had a 1980 z28 brand new! It always used a quart between changes. Hers had the 350 4 barrel with the flaps in the hood that opened up when the 4 barrel kicked in. She kept it about 10 years had 30k miles on it and gave it to me. A few years later some guy wanted it more than I did lol. But wish I still had it. Loaded 8 track type player and T tops!

Chevy did it right in this regard. My '81 Z28 (this was maybe 5 years ago or so) never needed an oil change; just a quart of oil every week!

I tried it once, was not as lucky, as soon as those threads cleared, woosh oil everywhere lol was quite the show, just glad no one was filming.

Let it go into a clean container, preferably with a spout, and then refill as required. If the oil is hot it's much more comfortable on the pinkies. But mate, you've probably already thought of that!

Ok, the word on this is as follows.

If you put the bike on the side stand (not center stand) and look at the sight glass, does the level come to the correct marker. If it comes down to proper level it should be fine to go. If it is still over the marker on the side stand you have way too much oil in there and you need to bring it down. The dealer should do this, but you can suck it out with a turkey baster and soda straw, or drain it off by backing out the drain plug carefully. Problem with the latter method is you will spoil the crush washer on the drain plug and that would be hard to overcome if that would bother you.

They did mine at the dealer and the washer was not an issue...they just did it and didn't bother.

On side stand I never see an oil level. On center stand on level ground, the oil level should be seen somewhere between the low and high markers on the engine cover eye glass viewer.

I reckon if you see an oil level in the viewer when using the side stand on level ground, you may have an overfilled sump.
