Tried his method and the chain is good. Probably try WD40 to try and remove the rust. I do have some degreaser with me and a good chain lube too. Will try and update with results.

Rust not associated with chain seals and mating surfaces won't have any impact other than appearance. The rust will eventually fade with normal use and lubrication of the chain. Manually cleaning will help expedite disappearance.

Used to own 2 Enfields with the newer EFI engines. I had sprockets broke on me a few times in 5 years. Thankfully, they're not expensive to replace.

Wow. I don't hear about sprocket failure on road bikes often.
