I don't think there are any tube-only tires made for larger, modern street bikes any more. A tubeless tire is always safer than a tube-specific tire. Even if your rim doesn't have the raised safety beads, they are designed to fit more snugly on the rim.
The EX rims have the safety beads, so if air leaks out, the tire stays put. Many wire-spoked rims don't have them, and most older cast wheels don't either.
There's no drawback to using a tubeless tire.
