Thanks all, for your advice and comments. And for the docs you forwarded to me. I may have said it earlier, I've owned chain drive bikes and changed rear tires more times than I can remember, but this was the first time I doubted I'd done it right.
Things are good now! A friend from the Wild Guzzi forum ( as well as from our monthly breakfast group) called to ask if he could offer some assistance. Oh, Yeah!
Found out I'd put everything back in order, but that one of the brake pads 'might' not have hooked to the pad holder, and thus been out of position. We put that all back together, and after some minor rotor heat up under harsh testing, found that the rear brake worked once again. No excess rotor heat.
Perhaps much to do about nothing, yes? Still, I feel like I learned a bunch about the CB1100 rear brake system, at least as far as assuring the caliper and pads weren't dragging.
