You want HP, there are plenty of other bikes out there that are smoking hot right out of the box; e.g. Kawi ZR900RS has 111 HP, stock, and it's a "retro" bike too.
It's your nickel, and you can spend it as you see fit, but my mod dollars were spent on suspension, not HP, thank you very much.

Yeah but.... The Kawa 900RS only just came out. (I can't find one to get a test on!)

If you have a 2013/14 CB1100 that you've already paid off then throwing even $1000 dollars at it is better value than going out and buying a new bike off the showroom floor.

For that $1000 you could add a fair bit of oomph to the engine. Certainly enough to keep you excited about your 5 year old bike.

I also believe there are some people who like to keep their bikes a while, grow with them and build up miles on them. Just chopping in every year for the latest can feel a bit soulless, although there is nothing wrong with doing that if you fancy. It's just not everyones cup of tea.

The Kawa is also a liquid cooled engine, if you want to keep it air cooled then your looking at a CB or ...??? I'm struggling to think of many other big air cooled 4's. You could go twin, but that's different again.

I totally get throwing a bit of money into your bike to keep it feeling peppy and exciting. After you've had your bike a while you can get used to the speed, so it's a good feeling to find a few more horses.

In fact, you could pick up a used 2013/14 CB, throw $6k at it and get the same curb weight and HP, and more torque at the back wheel than the new z900RS - not to mention top shelf fully adjustable suspension, a smoking paint job and some body work bling. It would have plenty of power, great handling and be a totally unique, air cooled machine... you'd still have a bit of change over the new bike. It depends what makes you happy...
