Well...good news is, I figured it out. You don't need to roll back the grips - you can tease the dimple on the clip out of the holes in the bars with two flat screwdrivers and some patience.
Bad news is, my cracked idea of filling the bars...didn't work. Apparently there is a constriction in the tube somewhere, beyond the end weights. Really, the amount of shot I got in, was negligible. That was with both ends open...couldn't possibly have filled it.
The bar did feel "packed" where I rapped it near the mounts. It MARGINALLY seems to mitigate vibration, but nowhere near the complete or near elimination I had hoped. I suppose come fall, I'll take the bar off and stand it on its end to fill it.
