Maybe you can better explain what you are feeling. Having been inside many gearboxes it is virtually impossible for there to be any "play" in there. Multiple toothed gears mesh together with teeth, slots and dogs ( raised bosses that go in the slots). of course for the protection of the system inside the box, there is chain slack and rubber dampers in the rear wheel which give some, sometimes called drive line lash. If you snap the throttle on and chop it off you will feel this drive line lash, particularly at low speed, and it's most easily felt on fuel injected bikes which have no low speed circuitry to soften the transition from on to off. Could this be what you are feeling?
