I had an issue with the kill switch a few years back. The obvious symptom was that the gauges would sweep, but the fuel pump would not activate when the key was turned on. Also, the "check engine" indicator does not illuminate momentarily as it normally does.
It turned out to be some minor corrosion on the kill switch contacts. I recall that a few other members have had this issue.
I wouldn't worry about the side stand switch. The bike should start in neutral regardless of the position of the side stand.
