However when the 2014 came out with all silver wheels I decided not to change the wheels on the 2013 and therefor I still have a new set of wheels in the basement and just weighed them.
Front 6.7 kg is 14.74 lbs. ( with bearings and air valve )
Rear 7.4 kg is 16.28 lbs. ( with bearings and air valve )
There is not that much difference as the front has two "carriers" for the discs and the rear only one.
Now you can close this thread....
now we're talking....though i think the AL and Magnesium wheels i've been looking at were posting their weight without the bearings and air valve. more than that, i've been mostly looking at 17 inch wheels because that's the conversion i'm considering making. So, depending on how much those bearings actually weigh, it seems like our stock wheels really are not much heavier than high end upgraded Alloy wheels, unless you go crazy and get Magnesium. frankly, if i'm going to save less than 10 lbs, i'm not inclined to spend the money. So the final comparison is:
8lbs. + bearings (aftermaket AL front) vs. 14.74lbs (OEM front)
and
11lbs. + bearings (aftermarket AL rear) vs. 16.28 lbs (OEM rear)
There is one more person i'm interested in hearing from. I seem to remember Chync put 17" spoked wheels on his bike, and i've talked to him about that conversion, but I don't have any record of what exactly his wheels weigh. He seems like the kind of guy that would have recorded that information. my first instict is that there's not really going to be any weight savings, but I could be wrong.
