mostly i'm concerned with parsing the logic behind which sprockets people choose to modify.

You don't need a speedo healer at the CB1100. The speed is measured directly at the rear wheel, the gearing/transmission ratio doesn't matter.

I added 2 teeth to the rear sprocket to get a more responsive gearing for my '13. Worked very well for me. The OEM transmission felt too long for me.
