sprocket changes...one, the other, or both?

Changing gear ratios can be done from either end or both, Simplest and cheapest is changing the counter shaft if there's room and one is available to meet your needs. If that doesn't get the job done you can further alter gearing at the rear. we always figured 3 teeth on the rear is equal to one tooth on the front. Some people will go one tooth on the front, and want some more change but not a whole tooth's worth, so then they will go 1 or 2 teeth on the rear to get exactly the gearing they are searching for.
