Hi Guys,
Owners Manual says there is an under seat document bag to hold the owners manual.
I didn't get one - and I imagined it would be coloured plastic with possibly a Honda logo impressed onto it.
It somehow has to clip under four prongs on the seat base.

Anyhow dealer sent me out part code 77251-GR1-000 described as "bag, service book"
. . . and it is literally a clear plastic bag inside a Honda parts bag.



the bag it came in looks more like a Honda part than the actual bag inside !!

Can anyone put up a pic of what their document bag looks like - especially if it is a 2016 year model. This just seems like a lame part to me. You get these clear nylock bags free when you buy Kawasaki parts

Hi everyone! For my '14 DLX, there were three bits of "flare" from the 2017 CB that I wanted to add. I have two of the three so far: air cleaner covers & the chrome gauge pod covers. However, for the third piece, I'm requesting a bit of assistance from someone that has a 2017 to look at...

In the parts breakdown on the 2017, it shows the silver instrument applique as a stick on item covering what appears to be the same instrument case that is on previous year CB's. What I need to know is if it fits flush around the outer edge or if there is a noticeable lip (as if it was just an add-on cover). It's a bit pricey to just buy and hope it will fit so I'd like to establish a bit of confidence it will work first.

Pic 1 shows the 2017 piece I'm referring to, while Pic 2 an 3 are the '14 and '17 parts fiches, respectively.

This might be a stupid question :
Is it possible to get the oil out of the forks with a vacuum brake bleeder and a thin tube or thin pipe ?
I use my air compressor to change/bleed my brakes and was thinking that I would be able to do the same with my forks without having to take them of the bike.
I am not lazy but always look for easier/quicker ways to do things.

Hepco & Becker have a rear rack that looks like it offers support for a rider. Has anyone got any experiance with this rack? Luggage is available too.

Last year I switched to 17" wheels on my 2014. I knew it would also throw off the speedometer and odometer as the sensor is triggered from the rear wheel. I found that Healtech Electronics made a product (speed-o-healer) to re-calibrate the speedometer for the CB1100. They are located in eastern Europe and sell through distributors.

After the wheels were on and I was satisfied with them I started on the speedometer project. My speedometer was off by 8% after installing the smaller wheels.

The install was very straightforward and should have been about a 30 minute job. The unit gets inserted inline between the rear wheel speed sensor and the instrument cluster.

I hooked it up according to the instructions but my speedometer was dead. No signal getting to it at all. The distributor was no help (no surprise) and directed me to Healtech for support. I quickly found they would not take phone calls and I stated to think this was not going to end well. I reluctantly started an email conversation explaining the problem. I went through a couple rounds of being sent nearly identical instructions that already came with the unit. Each time I repeated following their instructions I ended up with the same results. They finally started telling me which color wires to connect to and I realized we weren't talking about the same bike. We couldn't be. None of the wires they described were on the 2014 model.

I looked in my shop manual at the wiring diagram and it showed the same thing. While flipping through the manual I noticed there was a schematic for the 2013 model. The lightbulb went off. They were describing connecting this to a 2013 CB1100.

It turns out the rear wheel sensor completely changed from 2013 to 2014. It doesn't operate on the same type of signal. Healtech didn't realize there was a change. Apparently I must be the first 2014 CB1100 owner in the world to have installed this thing. :-)

Once we all realized the situation I expected the next thing I would hear was I would have to return the unit and just do without. To my surprise I was immediately offered to work with them to get a custom build made if I could take some electrical measurements on the wheel sensor. I couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped. The easiest thing for them to do would have been to simply take it back, update their documentation, and to let resellers know it wasn't compatible with the 2014 model and be done with it. Clearly no one else had called them with this problem before I did.

I took them up on it. I measured the output of the sensor, gave them pictures of the sensor connectors, distances from the mounting location to power and the sensor connection and sent it all to them.

I took a few months to get the new unit and at one point I was starting to think they had just been kidding about the whole thing. In the end I think they just updated their product with a version for the 2014 model because what they sent was not something that looked like a tech built on his workbench. This weekend the updated unit arrived. It took 15 minutes to install and worked perfectly.

I don't know that I have ever had that kind of customer service before.

Healtech makes quite a few other electronic add-ons mostly for racing. If you find yourself needing to recalibrate your speedometer I would check them out.

After all of that the story continued though.

I had a new rear tire waiting to go on and decided to do it immediately after setting up the speed-o-healer.

I decided to try a higher profile rear tire. The previous tire was a Pirelli Diablo Rosso III 180/55ZR-17. I switched to a 180/60ZR-17.

I put the tire on and went for a ride to scrub them in and wouldn't you know it but my speedometer was now off in the other direction!!!

All I could do was laugh.

After all of that time, confusion, and back and forth with Healtech, the higher profile tire matched with the smaller rim puts the overall wheel diameter back at the same measurement as stock!

I'm not sure if I will stay with this profile tire or not. I will have to see how I like it but the unit is easy enough to put into bypass mode disabling it without having to uninstall it and it will be a simple adjustment if I switch tire sizes.

Always a surprise and a pleasure when you come across people that care about what they do as much as you do yourself.

Finally got a sunny warm day in the northwest, so I took the new Speedie out for a loop around Hood Canal with a couple of buddies. Total 123 miles on one tank of gas, left me with about .8 gallons left and 35 miles left until empty per the trip computer. I averaged 64 mpg for the trip, and I was not babying it.

I'm fully in love with this new bike and can't wait to do some full on touring. Some thoughts / observations:

1. Holy crap does this thing accelerate! It's a proper he**-raiser.
2. Lean angle...well, I knew this was not a strong point for this bike. But with some shifting of body weight toward the inside of the tighter curves (pretending I have track skills), I was able to keep up the other two bikes shown in the picture below.
3. Ergonomics are near perfect for me (5' 9"). Love the relaxed riding position.
4. Seat...not bad! I'll see how I do with longer rides as it breaks in and I get used to it. May not have to change a thing.
5. My friends said it was one of the best sounding bikes they've heard!
6. Even at 70+ mph, wind was smooth and nearly silent over my Shoei RF1200. Chest pressure minimal. As of right now, I can't begin to imagine screwing up the lines of this bike with a windscreen, no way! Especially when 90% of my riding is below 70mph, and on dry days.
7. One minor quibble...being this is the first bike I've had with kind of short fenders, I was a little surprised by how much spray and splatter got ALL over the bike just from riding over a slightly wet section of road. No problem to wipe it down when I got home, but still...

Over all, zero complaints, all smiles. If the seat doesn't thrill me in the long run, I'm going to have it reworked at Rich's Custom Seats in Kingston, WA. Other than that, all I've done is remove the reflectors and the pillion seat & grabrail. I'm officially ready for summer!

Let me preface this post by saying I purchased my 2014 DLX with a rather thorough plan of of what I wanted to do for mods & accessories (even saved up in advance for the parts). I originally wanted to do a "build thread" but got ahead of myself swapping/installing things on the bike over the last couple weeks. So, at this point, I'm just posting a mods/accessories list to summarize my progress thus far. I know as a new CB owner and relatively fresh member of the forum, I checked in a lot to see what others were doing to their bikes to make them unique, stylish, functional and perform better... just figured I'd pass that same thing along in sharing what I've done to mine.

I'm pretty sure I want to go with silver side covers instead of black. However, I'll probably paint the DLX style ones instead of keeping the '13 type that I had on it originally. And the jury is still out on the RS seat; it looks good but doesn't fit perfectly at the tank which causes the material to bunch/ripple in the center of the seat. Considering having an upholstery shop reshape it or go with a stock DLX or Corbin as a long term option.

Still mulling over options for an exhaust and potential suspension upgrades, but that's all part of phase two! LOL
