Live to Ride...Ride to Eat

Great Thread Stichill
most of my bike rides involve going to get food or eat at a restaurant.
an unusual favorite is a 15 min ride over to a small town restaurant that is only open from about 10:30 AM till 2 PM and closes early if the food runs out sometimes before 1PM
owner is a retired Navy and a fantastic cook . here are a few pics with the owner / cook on the right

Steak 'n Shake burgers are great, ferret. I usually get the double but if I'm really hungry, it's the triple for me.

The Roadkill Cafe looks like my kind of place, use2b! Looks like there's some great cooking going on in there.

500 mile round trip run to Pie Town, NM!:D

I've made this run several times in the past but this was a first for the annual festival.

About 90 degree temp, overcast sky with much of that due to blowing in from the fires in the NW states. Some also from local precip clouds which felt refreshing and may have helped clean off some of the bugs.

Green Chile Cheeseburger at the Largo Café in Quemado.

Fresh out of the oven slice of Coconut Cream from the Pie-O-Neer Café in Pie Town.

Shot taken before the crowds arrived.

Great Pic Tom , wondering what that salted fish taste like .
i have 2 cases of German Herring fillets caned in Paprika sauce .

Sweet Valkyrie , love those bikes.

Wife wanted to ride down to "Old Washington" outside of Maysville Ky. Some neat old log houses.

this is the post office in Old Washington, Ky

after cruising thru the historic district there, and in Maysville, we headed to "George"town Ohio (to keep the Washington theme going) and a stop at the Country Inn

this place makes great fried chicken, but we had already had lunch, and it was too early for dinner so we had some of their homemade, to die for, Orange Creamsickle Cake and a cup of tea.

OMG this stuff is good. When passing thru town I will often stop and pick up a piece to take home. Zesty orange flavor with cream cheese icing with bits of pineapple in the icing. Mmmmm

If in the area, be sure and stop in and get the fried chicken with sides and a slice of creamsickle cake and then crawl out to your bike and try and ride home without falling into a food stupor lol

oh yea, then we rode some great roads back home incl 221 which runs from Georgetown to Higgensport, Ohio on the Ohio river

221 has miles of this dry stack rock wall, what an effort it must have taken to build

and 133

and then along the river to home

Wow, Gary! 550 miles for pie...that's determination! And man that looks like an awesome plate of burger and fries...and that PIE! I spent some time in Albuquerque on business, but I never got up the courage to try the green chilis on a burger. I did eat at Blake's Lotaburger quite often, though! :D
Nice ride, ferret! Love the historic places. That cake is unique...never heard of it but looks delicious!

A bloke could put on weight just reading this thread!

@use2b
the canned fisch in tomato or paprikasauce ist complete different to
"Matjes"

a little wiki about "Matjes"

The soused herring (maatjesharing or just maatjes in Dutch, or matjes in German and Swedish) is an especially mild salt herring, which is made from young immature herrings. The herrings are ripened for a couple of days in oak barrels in a salty solution, or brine. The pancreatic enzymes which support the ripening make this version of salt herring especially mild and soft.

the dutch way to eat Matjes:

Hope you boys get an imagine.......

Apparently, some Ferrets drink beer ...

 yea, just not this one. Never acquired a taste for it. (btw they can put all the fancy ingredients in beer they want like Seville oranges or whatever and it still tastes like beer... to my palate the cheapest swill in a can, tastes just like the fresh brewed fancy stuff my wife got in Germany when we were there..light and dark)

:beerchug: make mine tea please

Nice platter there, use2b! Love me some frog legs. Had a good 'ol boy come out here to the farm one time and teach me how to gig 'em and pull out the central nerve of the legs so they don't keep kicking in the frying pan.

Moini:hello: Cheeselovers

Impressions of our visit at the "Fontina Producers Consortium"

The cheese mature in a big old coppercave. (seize about 4 footballfields!!!)

Fontina is made exclusively from full cream unpasteurised milk from Valdaostan breeds of cow which feed mainly on green grass during the summer and local hay throughout the rest of the year. Slow maturing enhances the cheese's fragrance., making it even moore digestible. The recipe for preparing this cheese has been passed down over the centuries.

the cheese must be turned and (hand saltet)

believe me it smells wonderfull:thumbsup:

cheesey regards

Help a poor antipodean, use2b: what is 'bush hogging shooting lanes'?

Cormanus, in some areas of this country, the brush is think so hunters bush hog (cut) lanes or paths thru the brush they can shoot thru when hunting so they get an unobstructed view of the target
