2014 Std Modifications

I'm sure you've covered before. What have been your top 3 to 4 modifications/upgrades on your '14 std. that a new owner should consider for comfort or convenience?

Purchased my "new" '14 yesterday and would appreciate some insight.

Seats, Shields, USB mount, Rack, Bags (tank or otherwise), Yoshimura, Dynojet...?

Recommendations are welcome!

So far just the OEM rear rack. OEM engine guards and Corbin seat with backrest are next.

ECU remap

Jet Hot header coating
Desinged and built mounting system for Dewalt Tough System cases
Rear tail light downsize
RLETS
Gators
2017 CB1100 airbox covers
Removed stickers and reflectors
Painted headlight mounts, black
Sanded and polished head fin edges
Dowco Iron Rider overnight, Rear soft case

1. Factory engine guards
2. LED brake/taillight
3. Snorkel mod (mainly for sound)
4. Tools (sockets, wrenches, pliers), tire pump, Sean N Air, tire plug kit under the seat
Everything else stock is fine for me, although I have scrambler tires on order.

Oh, almost forgot the most important. MEE M6 pro ear buds with Comply isolation ear bud tips. Love them. They eliminate noise, sound great, and fit well in a tight fitting helmet.

Start with the mods which will keep you riding. Consider your contact points with the bike:

- Seat: Do you like stock or do you want something else?
- Grips: Do you want grip puppies or heated grips?
- Bars: Higher with risers or a lower bar?
- Pegs: Do you want lower pegs or highway bars/pegs?

Then consider other comfort/utility/performance mods:

- Windscreen?
- Rack/box/panniers?
- Tires?
- Gearing/sprocket?
- Exhaust?

Then consider style mods.

Mixed in with all of those (preferably towards the beginning), consider mods which will make you a better rider: Protective gear, riding classes, etc.

That's how I approach mods with my motorcycles. Choose what's important to you, then you'll find a wealth of information on each mod in the different threads here on the forum.

Hey, they look interesting. I've been looking for a pair of low-profile ear buds that have the different types of tips so I can see what works best. These seem to check the boxes. Price of these is good too!

I'm 6'0" with a 34" inseam.

I really like the look of the standard seat. For me, it was uncomfortable after about an hour of riding. I ordered a Corbin seat with extra foam. It felt hard for the first few weeks. Now, I love it. I've been on several eight-hour plus rides. With a stop for gas and a stretch every two hours, it works. My legs get more uncomfortable than my backside does on long rides.

Hicks, congrts on your '14, and welcome to the forum.

I must pipe in and suggest that if you get sore after only 30 minutes of riding, something's wrong. I'd hate to think you need a Corbin to tolerate a half-hour ride. We're all shaped differently, but to me the stock CB seat is an all-day seat (riding solo). I'm 6'6", 36" inseam, 210 lbs. It may not be the consensus, but to me, for the way I ride, the bike is perfectly comfortable as is. Hope you find your sweet spot!

Actually, I was okay with the stock seat. I swapped for aesthetical rather than functional reasons. I wanted a tuck-n-roll look. I usually drive short distances. I'm 6 ft, 32" inseem.

My 2003 XLH883 stock solo seat was only good for ~50 miles, as was the stock 2012 Bonneville seat.

The V7II took some time to acquire the ability go all day (460 miles)

For the CB1100, the same analysis as the V7II only more comfortable sooner. I have been 460 miles in a day on it, also. Stretch breaks come sooner towards the end of the day.

Not saying I would not appreciate a Corbin, but stock is OK for me for an all day ride. Just takes some acclimation.

Yep. If I am with friends and they are not ready for a break (usually refuel at about 100 miles), I just stretch one leg at a time and/or stand on the pages.

They came with the usual silicone tips and one medium Comply tip. The medium was to small for me, didn't block noise well and minimal bass response, I ordered the larger Complys. Made a big difference in bass and noise blocking.

How much noise do they keep out? Are they as good as noise cancelling headphones?
