tail-bag install
#1

this is how I installed my tail bag to the little CB.. some of you may be interested in the finer details.. it has been on the bike for a year now, but more importantly I have removed it at least a dozen times.. I wanted the tail bag and drivers backrest to be removed easily when needed.. both have worked out very well.. I wanted to keep the tail bag kinda small, so it wouldn't overwhelm the size of my CB.. I like the looks of my bike naked, but i am not willing to sacrifice some of the niceties I felt were necessary..

the more I look at that towel, the more determined I am to change it out to a nice red one..

That's really clever. I have a Givi V47 trunk on the back of my CB, and yes, it does look huge, but it's great for carrying large items.

On my Bonneville, I've got the same soft tail bag you have, mounted on the rear portion of the seat. I've been thinking about how to move it off of the seat so I have more room, without using a bunch of straps if I were to get a small luggage rack for the bike. This might be the way to go!

I bought a couple of Nelson-Rigg expandable tank and seat bags when I started back into motorcycling. I found the seat bag made mounting and dis-mounting the bike cumbersome. When I bought a rear rack for my CB1100 EX I mounted the seat bag on it.

As the bag zippers can easily be opened, I wanted something safer for my helmet and gloves when I was away from the bike. I did not like the satellite look of large trunks, but one of the members here posted a picture of his small EMGO top box. It does not spoil the looks of this retro motorcycle, but is large enough to hold my helmet and gloves.

The top box was inexpensive and came with an easy mounting platform that fit well on the Honda rear rack. The box can be removed using the key, and snaps back on easily. It can not be left open as the key can not be removed until the box is locked.

Say, that little Emgo looks like the perfect ticket. I love the Givi setup. The black/silver V47 trunk was a beautiful match for my BMW, and the silver trim is a good match for the silver side panels on the CB as well. It's huge, but I can fit a whole shopping trip or more than a weekend's worth of clothes. For the Bonneville, I'd just want a more permanent version of the Nelson Rigg soft bag. My butt has shaped it from its original rectangular shape to something more like a trapezoid. I didn't want to sully the lines of the Triumph with a rack on the back, but I did with the Honda, and the practicality far outweighs the aesthetics.

The mount plate for the Emgo mimics the Givi Monokey setup. I'm assuming it has a release button to pop the trunk off when not needed?

Yes, there is a red button under the key.

Hi Chuck,

Nice tailbag install .. Sorry to go off topic, whats the large windshield you have on the CB ? I just ordered the Slipstreamer S-03 the Original which seems larger but I wanted my goldwing effect for this winter riding. I like the profile of your shield, any input on the shield review would be good here or a PM not to go off topic. Is is a national cycle or slipstreamer product ?

Cheers
