Adreani inserts for 2013/2014 ?
#11
THANKS ! , I will take you up on that , perhaps when we meet on the BRP at the Inn? Did you install them yourself or did Dave do it for you ?

Dave installed them. One thing you should know that I just found out. They require regular maintenance. I went too long before changing the fork oil and some valve components had excessive wear and had to be replaced. It will add some maintenance costs.

That is good to know , I might carefully check the ride on my 2014 compared with the 2017.
The other option is to put the 2017 forks on the 2014 , I think that the 2013 has a different axle diameter and therefor the 2017 forks might not fit on the 2013.
Why I am always looking for ways to spend money on my bikes !

What do they recommend for having to change the fork oil ?
I am not good in keeping up with changing the fork oil , therefor might again look at the 2017 forks for my 2014 (and 2013 ?)

Based on how much I ride I plan on changing the oil once a year. I put 9,000 miles on mine last year. I had those inserts on for 2 seasons so I had almost 18,000 miles on them and some of the internal components were worn out of spec.

On the earlier bikes I put Ohlins shocks but feel that the 2017 does not need it.
Has any one experience with the Adreani inserts for a CB 1100 , they are about $ 650 a set. Plus about $ 200 to install.
I bought 4 sets of Ohlins shocks from Fast Bike Industries and have met the owner Dave Behrend as he only lives about 20 minutes from my home and is a very honest guy with a lot of experience in suspension set ups.
You can install the inserts yourself but it is recommended to have an expert set them up properly.
I am not looking to save 0.8 seconds on lap times but just a nicer ride on the roads.
Can any one comment if it is worth spending the money ?

Houtman what do you mean 'nicer ride'? That's going to be very different depending on who you are, how you ride, what you weigh, the road conditions, etc. Might be good to articulate your actual objectives for the 'ride' you want from your bike. No point spending $850 for cartridges if all you need is a $25 bottle of weight fork oil ... or something in between.

For what it's worth, I installed the Andreani cartridges and am delighted with how they have improved the front end - in an earlier response Cormanus kindly provided you with a link to a very short report on my suspension upgrade.

I did see the link Cormanus kindly put up.
It is difficult to explain a nicer ride but I will try.
When I bought my 2017 I felt that the road holding on that bike was much better stock than my previous 2013 and 2014.
Of course there were difference , I never liked the Bridgestone OEM tires and felt that the 2017 Dunlops were much better.
I also put Ohlins on the back of my 2013 and 2014 and that gave a much better ride (heavier springs for my 220 body )and probable another 15-20 lbs of gear depending on season.
After reading about the different forks on the 2017 compared with the earlier ones and the ride reviews I start thinking that it was perhaps the front forks on the 2017 which gave me more confidence riding the bike in the corners.
I have to decide to go with the Andreani units or the 2017 forks for my earlier bikes.
The money is no problem after I gave up my drinking !

Houtman, firstly i'm no expert so the following is not a recommendation but rather just food for thought ...

From your response it doesn't seem like you are pushing the limits of the bike's suspension but perhaps looking for something that makes the bike feel a little more balanced in the corners without the front diving too much.

Your weight requires stiffer fork springs as the standard units are only 0.75kg/mm which can barely hold up the bike let alone a 220 lb rider - consider replacing your springs with 0.9kg/mm units, e.g. Racetech FSRP 3534090. I've seen on eBay for around $100 per set.

To swap out the springs is a really easy job by only removing the fork caps, removing the old spacers and springs, inserting new springs and spacers. You won't even need to change fork oil but if it's more than 20,000km old then replacing the fluid is not a bad idea - that's slightly bigger job.

Thank you , I will look into this too !

I am torn between these and the Racetech springs and valves. Anyone have the Racetech?
Curious: How adjustable are the Adreani?
