Any suggestions for an OBD reader for the Honda CB1100 that wont break the bank?
I use an Autell Maxi AP200 for my car but cant see any software for Honda motorcycles for it?

I think the OBD connector starts from 2017MY CB1100 , not before??

Yes, as usual you are correct PB.
My 2017 has data communication capability with a 4-pin connector under the seat, however, one will require an adaptor from a 4-pin connector to the regular trapezoid OBD2 connector.

Is that from VIN plate? Mine is registered 2017 but vin plate is 2014 ?

VIN's 10th character indicates the model year.

Like PB said, if it is a 2017 or above, you need the HDS (Honda Diagnostic system).
Or, I have one from this company:

It plugs into the diagnostic connector and to a PC (not Mac unless they support that now). Download and install their software and have fun.

To be clear Davidjill — if the above is not — check the VIN. You need the tenth character to be in the range H-N.

I'm not sure I would bother David. I have had a 2017EX for a few years now and do my own maintenance and have never had a reason to need to connect. I did go as far and buy the Honda Diagnostics Port to OBD2 cable but couldn't justify the price of the Healtech unit. I did try some licensed "any car" software which has worked well for me over the years but it refused to connect, unsurprisingly I guess.

I have 133K kms on my 2014 std and 27K kms on my DLX ... and some members have over 100,000 miles = no issues.
The OBDII must be able to read car engine DTCs and real time data according to the protocol, but may not read ATM, ABS/ESC, EPS...etc.
Since 1996, all cars in North America must be equipped with a 16-pin OBDII connector.
In 1995, some cars in Canada were OBDII ready, but it was not mandatory.
Motorcycles do not fall under the category of cars, so different regulations may apply.

I bought Blue Driver for the FJR and took a chance and picked up the adapter that fit the CB. Turns out it works just fine. I used it a couple times to clear the ABS light after running it for a moment on the center stand to spray a bit of lube on the chain (please don’t report me to OSHA).
