Hi guys, I'm hoping to get my cb1100 this next weekend and I would really appreciate any advice on what to expect in terms of maintenance. The bike is a 2013 model and it has 15k miles. I read that the intervals for valves inspections is every 8k miles. The dealer is charging me 200 dlls for an "inspection" but I doubt it includes valves inspection. Thanks in advance guys!

Eddie...$200 for an "inspection" is pretty steep. My dealers shop labor cost are about $75 an hour. My first SERVICE at 600 miles was $97 and that's basically an INSPECTION with OIL/Filter change. Be interested to hear what you get for $200.

Thats what I thought too, but the OTD price was a little less than 6k so I was ok with that. Most dealers charge an inspection fee here when buying a used model.

Eddie, be aware that checking the valves isn't that big a deal. Adjusting them requires removal of the cams. A more costly deal...

The 200 does seem a bit high. If it's a PPI, then it's likely a road test and visually inspecting/feeling all the possible check points. That $200 seems a bit steep. If it's an oil change, inspection and some basic adjustments (chain etc..) maybe not so bad.

For that money request that the mechanic go over the bike with you at delivery and get his feedback. Ask about seat removal - there is a trick to it.
How are the tires at 15k?

... which all 2,882 forum members are waiting to discover. There's a lot riding on your $200 inspection, Eddie.

Eddie,
Great choice for a used bike! For $6,000 plus $200.00 for dealer service is a bargain. Go for it.
My '13 just rolled 34,000 mi today and has had zero issues. I took it in for the initial service @ 15,000 mi. (valve adjust only, since I wanted a real mechanic to check the valves) and everything was in spec., no adjustments necessary. My initial service was about $170.00 which included everything minus the oil/filter change. Mostly for peace of mind. The mechanic said that I didn't need to ever bring it in again for a valve check (his opinion).
This a is a fantastic machine.
Take care.
