There's a local 2013 CB1100 here in NY for $5800 with 1800 miles, a rack, and a Shad top box. It's been on the market since at least early September. It's a non-ABS bike, and in perfect shape. I can't believe the used prices on these bikes. If I didn't have so much money in my Nighthawk, I'd buy one. As it is, my Nighthawk has a Shoei FM-2 fairing, and a Givi Wingrack and boxes and is pretty good for my usage and I'd never get any money out of it. It's worth maybe $1800 on a good day?

As for new tires I've bought 7 new bikes since 2009 and they all had new tires and were not crashed. I'll repair it and ride it as I've cleaned the front tire with alcohol Abd a scotch abrasive pad. Road it again with no issue. My guess is they are still new tires. I've been riding long enough to know to go easy on the tires and brakes for the first 100 miles That's interesting; we have one member who uses ATF regularly to shine up his tires and says it's never been a problem. But then if HE is the one who put it on, he'd know.
Here is a rule of thumb, anytime you take off on a ride, especially on a new bike or bike that is new to you, take it VERY easy and gradually feel your way to the edges of the tires (that is, as far as you are comfortable with normally).
You do that, you should be able to feel if something is not quite right.
When we go out on the racetrack first thing in the morning for a race or track day, we take a few laps to get the tires warm and grippy. I've seen many guys throw the bike down the road just stuffing it into a turn, cold tires, tires that might not be properly aired up, and so on, they will catch you out.
It's possible to ride through oil if you're careful and can keep the bike on a nice line. Loading the front or rear before you really know the tire is clean and grippy, that's sort of a rule that we try never to break.

G'day and welcome to the forum, bjorn. When you say yo can't believe the prices, do you mean you think the one you're looking at is over or under-priced?

Wow, can't believe that. I also had a 2002 750-Nighthawk, Shoei FM-2, Givi Wingrack and boxes! What a 'match'. I sold it on Craigslist for $2400, and found my 2014-DLX (in NY). It was the perfect 'trade-up'.

I sold my 13 for $5400
it had 9k miles, it was spotless, full exhaust, pcv, renthal bars and some other odds n ends
yeah resale is pretty bad on the 13 models from what I saw here in NC.
when I look at trading it I was offered $3k from 2 separate dealerships.

The resale value for EVERYTHING in the motorcycle world is currently in the toilet.
Just sayin'
Many of our local dealers are selling nothing with two wheels. ATV and UTV sales are the only thing keeping them in business.

I concur w/ "The resale value for EVERYTHING in the motorcycle world is currently in the toilet."
My new 2014 Vstrom 650 Adv that I bought from the dealer 1.5 yrs ago for $9k OTD, less TT&L,
right now won't fetch anything over $6k w/ 12k miles.
Likewise, my new 2013 Burgman 400 that I bought from the dealer 2.5 yrs ago for $6k OTD, less TT&L,
right now won't fetch anything over $2.5k, also w/ 12k miles.
The CB1100 is not immune to deep depreciation, imho.
If I were to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. New is new. Low miles is low miles.

I'm convinced to fix it up and keep it. I really liked it before the low side and ordered most of the parts. Need my ribs and pinky and a knee to heal then I'll be wrenching and riding.
Can fix it for $500 and luckily paid $6700 tax, tags, fees included. I'll ride it soon.
