POLL - CB1100 DLX or CB1100 EX?

I'm just curious....did any DLX make it to a dealer's showroom w/o a customer putting down a pre-order commitment/down payment?

Volume of DLX is so low, it would suggest that....

Good question. Never thought of it that way. I bought mine right off the floor in June 2014. I didn't have a deposit on it and certainly wasn't following the CB thing leading up to getting it. I'd seen the '13 once, more than a year before, and had no idea that my soon to be '14 DLX was any different, in appearance or otherwise, than the '13.

I stopped into the shop that day with no intention of buying a bike. I was going to walk through, check out the new machines, then hop back on my Thruxton and cruise home. I saw the CB, was immediately smitten, the sales dude told me it was sold and I was like... 'Damn!'. On my way out the door I mentioned to the sales manager how cool the bike was and (half joking) how sorry I was that I missed out on it. He told me it wasn't sold and I bought it right there.

My impression over the following months was that (US) public demand for the CB was mostly satisfied by the 2013 model and that's why there were so relatively few 2014's.

Also, the DLX price probably put off a number of otherwise interested riders which is likely how mine remained unsold, on the floor, for the time that it did.

I love my DLX. It's the most beautiful and most perfect bike, for me; I don't think I could ever give it up.

I was looking to replace my KLR650 and spent a year looking at everything: V Strom, Versys, Bonneville, etc. I test rode the '13 when it first came out and was very impressed, but just could not move on it. I continued looking at the others but was really frustrated that nothing stood out as best, for me.

Then I came into a bunch of money in December of '14 and had to make a decision quick, or the money would be gone to other things.

I just happened on the Honda site, and there was the DLX. Ruby Red gas tank and side covers, bigger tank, ABS, 6 speed, and those beautiful chrome dual pipes! I was sold!

I called around and found one in north Dallas to sit on and fell in love. But I had determined to buy from my favorite salesman at a different dealership. So I drove directly from one dealer to the other, walked straight in, and told him I wanted a '14 DLX and was paying cash right now. (I've never in my life bought a bike like that).

He didn't have one, looked around on his computer, and said there are three in the DFW area and he would have me one the next day. I knew one of the three was the one I sat on minutes before.

I said SOLD, wrote him a deposit and told him I'll be back to get it. I had never ridden a DLX and bought it sight unseen.

Next day, I was back with the balance of cash, sign papers and get a little training from the salesman. She was setting in front when I drove up and I gasped because she was so beautiful. I found out she came from a different dealer than where I sat the bike.

I rode off with the hugest grin I've ever had. Today, a little over two years later, I still grin when riding her, and I absolutely love looking at her every chance I get.

Guessing the sales dude spent time with another customer who promised to come back and buy the bike, but never left a deposit or signed anything. To the sales manager, the bike wasn't sold. Good fortune on your part!

Big Grin I'm a former employee of the dealer (12+ years ago) and know all the long timers that work there and this guy:

Bought mine from the dealer while in the crate. Owner planned to ride it but I said not if I'm buying it.

Love both my 13 and 14Dlx
