License Plate Bracket
#1

Finally got around to making a replacement for that big, ugly, license plate bracket. Picked up a sheet of Lexan from Lowe's for less than $5 (enough to make 2), a couple of flat elevator bolts, drill some holes, Dremel the corners round, sand the edges, and Voilà!

I like this idea a lot. However, I think I am going with Branew's Variation to the Chip Beck Plate Elimination technique, wherein the original bracket is cut down, repainted, and reinstalled, although I think I will repaint it in silver.

Probably easier to do the Lexan, than cut and repaint the metal one. Plus, it is not just getting rid of the wrap around edges, and reflectors, that made such a big difference to me. The stock bracket hides a lot of the chrome fender because it rides so down low below the taillight, and is very vertical. In other words, when viewed from the side, it is almost straight up and down, and the gap is far from the fender. This mounting tucks up tight under the taillight, and rolls forward and aligns with the angle of the fender, about 1/2 inch off its surface.

Just whatever turns your crank, but I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Plus, as stated above, an unmolested stock bracket, wrapped and stored in pristine condition, is going to be valuable someday! Big Grin

I like prudence in a motorcyclist, DGS. Wise investment in your superannuation fund and elegant to boot. Big Grin

Modifying the existing bracket will allow the plate to be mounted in the same relative spot under the tail lamp as this technique, but the Lexan technique could be easier to accomplish.

DGS,

Well done. I did the same thing some time back but used an aluminum plate.
