Longer shifter peg?
#1

Is there anyway to make/get a longer shifter peg (that sticks out further from the bike)?

I don't know but I also would be interested to find out I've had to adjust my normal shifting style and found my selfe missing shifts when I first got the bike!

I would bet metalmaven could make up something that would slip over the stock shifter peg to make it longer. BTW I measured mine at 1 1/2" then measured the one on my ST 1300 and it's also 1 1/2". I'm betting this is a standard measurement for Hondas.

Try Twisted Throttle, Adventure Tech or Aerostich. I know I've seen them somewhere for BMWs. IIRC, one type just slides over the existing shifter and another type replaces the shifter lever and is adjustable. I have no idea if any of these will fit a Honda CB though.

I'm thinking about removing mine and having my welding buddy heat and double bend my lever to extend the shifting lever further out from the cycle. I like the short throw the stock lever produces but 1/2" further out should not impact this.

After many experiments, I've seemingly found an acceptable solution. It can be seen in the 2 snapshots hyperlinked below:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5SaqXB...p=drivesdk

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5SaqXB...p=drivesdk

The shown peg comes in another version: raw aluminum (the one in the pictures is anodized aluminum). These pegs are intended to be used as folding footrests and therefore are sold in pairs. A pair can be bought for below $15 on aliexpress.com, eBay, or Amazon. Look for CNC aluminum folding pegs. Their main model is called Neverland.

If anyone becomes interested in this modification (which can be performed, if planned carefully, even without removing the gear shift lever from the bike), I'll publish detailed instructions for this modification.

Basically, it boils down to using an angle grinder to cut off a portion of the original (welded on) shifter peg, threading the remaining stub of the original peg with a 8mm-1.25 die, reaming the mount thread orifice of the aluminum footrest with a 9/16" drill bit (and spraying the reamed part with black satin Rustoleum if using an anodized footrest), then putting some medium strength threadlocker on the threaded stub and screwing the footrest on.

Interesting...I'm curious about how this peg might wear on your boots, but more importantly, whether or not the peg would have a tendency to fold-up when you attempt to shift.

The peg folds horizontally and backwards, while pressure is applied to it vertically and slightly forward. So I can't see how it could fold during gear shifts.
