Mounting a GoPro on the CB1100. Some ideas.

Not to be mean but it seems obvious attaching anything but especially something that protrudes and changes the form of the helmet compromises the design of the helmet. When the impact occurs on the attached device it would greatly affect the distribution of the received forces to to helmet shell and interior and no doubt concentrating the force to a small area versus spreading the force on the shell. Since the helmet designer has no way to know how, where or what was attached to the helmet; there can no way to model the forces to compensate.

Seems rather intuitive if you think about it for a moment

the helmet broke where the camera was mounted
in the time since it's been determined anything mounted on a helmet of any type can cause a torque to the helmet or additional damage
most track day orgs now ban any helmet-mounted cam

but yes intuitively one would think anything mounted to the helmet is not such a good plan

pretty sure a snell rated lid would not crack or puncture from a gopro but the notion of the camera preventing the helmet sliding or creating snapping or torquing of the neck does not appeal to me

its also a distraction but then again have you heard of the two guys playing pokemon go who fell off a cliff looking for a pokemon...

I swear this game makes people turn their brains off.

they have put the locations in areas that create hazards and inconvenience people

it will only be a matter of time until legal challenges arise on the question of using a true location which is private property as a feature of a game that is a commercial enterprise

this truly stretches and will ultimately define the idea of personal property rights

if a home or business is used to generate use of the game that can in some way be construed as creating a right to royalties

however i and a millenial i asked about this both believe it will ultimately be too much trouble for the couch potatoes to get up and put gas in the car and tackle traffic when they can just as easily stay home and play video games

burnout will occur within a few weeks maybe sooner if folks keep turning up dead as with one location or continue falling off cliffs

I've personally had some great footage mounting my cam using a roll bar tube clamp onto the fork stanchion just above the limit of fork travel. It gives good rider view rolling as the bike leans in the twisties. Just check it's not catching the horn or you will end up with horrible vibration noise.....

So I "best offered" this GoPro mount off of eBay for $3 with free shipping:



And this is where I put it ... I actually use an Activeon CX (GoPro knockoff) I got for $25 new in box off eBay, nice little deal. Came with the sealed case and GoPro mounts are compatible:



The plastic seems a little flimsy on the $3 mount, but vibration was far less than I expected. Location fail though ... tachometer photobombed the whole shot. May try mounting on the engine guards next.

Better results, but the camera got mighty warm, even on a short 15-minute ride. Enters Lightspeed Mode around 1:35. I may try the fluid reservoir mount next.

Yeah, the audio on this camera sucks. If it's recording anything remotely loud, it distorts and booms pretty badly.

You can adjust the audio recording volume in the Activeon settings or turn it off, but you have do it every time you turn the camera on, and then it's involves cycling through menus and pushing the button about 10 times, so a pain.

I had YouTube wipe the distorted original audio and substitute copyright-free background music instead.
