Honda Top box mounting
#1

I have been approached by a new member, who hasn’t posted yet, about mounting a Honda top box on a Honda rack with a Honda mount. His bike is a 2013. He is tbhart89.

Anyway, he cannot figure out how to mount the 2 piece mount. I searched the internet for at least an hour or so today and cannot find any instructions anywhere.

Is there anyone here who has a Honda top box, rack and mount that can help him? The rack is mounted already.

Here is what he asked: “I just can't quiet figure out how the metal bracket for the mounts to the rear carrier. This is the part I have 08L71MGCN40 , holes line up but not sure which side faces up or how the plastic part mounts to the metal. Thanks

I feel like I remember someone selling their Honda top box and mount not all that long ago. Maybe that person will have the needed insight

I hope they do. I have a top box on a Honda rack, but the mount and box is Givi on both my bikes.

Yea I just did the ADV mod and used the factory rack and then drilled some holes in a HF Apache case and used harley QD bolts to screw it down to the rack.

I sold OEM Honda to Nacho:
* two piece mounting adapter/hardware
* top box

He should have all the instructions.

If that new member has any other Honda or non Honda rear rack without pre drilled flat cross-bars**, then the two piece OEM Honda adapter will work only with an aftermarket universal hardware/brackets/bolts....like from this link:

Thanks for the post. I think I have it figured out but looks like Webike shorted me some of the hardware. I emailed them so hopefully they get it taken care of. Does anyone know the part number for the backrest pad for the 35L top box? It shows how to install it in the top box mounting instructions but doesn't give a part number. Thanks for all the help!

Nacho, Please see this thread

If possible, could you take pics of the instruction sheet and email them to me (for future reference) and/or TBhart? I’ll pm you my email if you’re willing to do it.

That is why you are my Baron PB. You are awesome!

There are four special bolts/nuts and spacers to attach the mounting plate to the rack. If he doesn't have these, it won't be easy to attach. I am getting pictures and will send soon.
PB sent me good instructions for removing the lock unit and re-keying it. I found at least one good video on You Tube for removing the lock from the box. In the next post I will include photos of the instruction sheet I have.

The mounting plate is a top piece and a bottom piece which are held together with four bolts/nuts and are covered with the oval or round plastic caps.

The bottom piece attaches to the rack with special nuts, bolts and spacers

These three brackets are what is supplied to attach the base to a non-flat bar rack. The bottom plate is attached to the rack first and then the top plate is attached to it, as I remember.

sorry about the size of these. My desktop photo app underwent a change and made it more difficult to re-size. You don't really need the text, but if you do, it will help if you can read Japanese.
I will send these in a PDF to Lord Popgun by email.

I tried to edit the photos, as they were too big, but ran out of time. Let's give it another try.

These brackets are to use when you are attaching it to a rack that is not the Honda flat-bar rack.
