Running in procedure
#1
Hi

Just bought a CB1100 it had 287 miles on it when I got it, it's booked in for its first service when it will have just over 600 miles on it. Can anyone help me with the correct running in procedure after its 600 mile service.

Regards
John

AFTER 600 miles? Just ride it like normal.

Proper procedure calls for regular exercise.

There is not one. I personally changed the oil, yes it was Honda 10w30 oil, and the oil filter, yes it was the Honda brand oil filter. It is happy with that, sounds good, runs smooth.

I am going to synthetic 10w30 Honda oil soon as I feel she is broken in. She might be now, frankly. She has a vibration in the handlebars right after I bought her but that has lessoned and it might actually be the tires breaking in but what do I know except that she rides smoother now after 600 miles.

I have great experience with synthetic oil in my Sierra truck, 340 thousand miles now and the only problem I have with that V8 engine is her valve guilds and some seals have natural wear that will occur no matter how great the oil is.

So, after break in I will use synthetic to prevent any wear on startup. Startup is where the wear occurs and synthetic will flow faster quicker.

Instead of 100 opinions and 50 assumptions, (mostly wrong) why not refer to the owner's manual?!

Honda is silent after that short run-in period except for the maintenance schedule. Like the OP, while reading the owner's manual, we might reasonably wonder if this is enough break-in before going to a no wear synthetic. I think not but since there is no offical recommendation I myself might be looking for opinions from experienced members. In this regard, there probably is no "wrong" answer, just some are more right for each individual than others. This being a forum for such concerns.

Yes, there ARE wrong answers. Like when you said there is no break-in procedure.

It would be wrong if I actually said that but I did not. Instead, the OP asked about a run in procedure after 600 mile service. I said there is not one because, well, because there is not one.

Here is what the OP asked, quoted "Can anyone help me with the correct running in procedure after its 600 mile service."

Perhaps it would be best if you read the posts before being critical of them. But that is up to you.

Oh, I see my error now. Sorry. While we're pointing out exactly what the OP asked about, I see he never asked about synthetic oil either...Big Grin
