Factory Tool Kit
#11
Thanks for this post. I've been putting off ordering the tool kit for a long time. For me, a tool kit should have enough basic tools to do basic roadside tasks like removing a battery, adjusting shock preload or the chain.

I was ordering a box of oil filters from Partzilla, so I just added the took kit items to it. Cost was around $50. Well worth it.

That's pretty much the tool kit that came with the OZ '10 model. Less one, or maybe two, of those Allen Keys.

Cheers

Good buy Flyn. Might be asking a bit much of an under seat tool kit for a chain adjustment, needs a bit of leverage to get the torque required for the axle bolts. The only time I've felt the need of a chain adjustment away from home I dropped into a motorcycle shop to get it torqued up.

Cheers

Shows the penny pinching today. That actually looks like it could be used to put the bike back into service again on the road. The ones in today's bikes, not so much.

I did my last chain adjustment with the tool kit (just to test it out). With the handle extension and some foot power I was able to loosen the axle nut. When tightening, you just about have to lift the rear end of the bike to get the proper torque. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

I looked around for a nice aftermarket kit but realized that, for the same price or cheaper, I could just do what the dealership did for you guys and buy the remaining OEM tools separately. Now I only carry tools that are useful for the CB1100 and they all fit neatly into the existing pouch. Thumbs Up

I think I saw this in another thread somewhere but MotoSport has the best price that I could find. All the remaining tools cost me $50.36, shipped. Here's a link to the OEM toolkit:

[url=http://www.motosport.com/motorcycle/oem-parts/honda/2014/cb1100/tool]CB1100 OEM Toolkit

Here's a list of the remaining tools needed to fill out the toolkit:

2 - BAG, SERVICE BOOK 77251-GR1-000 1 $3.00
3 - WRENCH, BOX (P14) | (Optional) 89216-KVZ-630 1 $8.87
4 - WRENCH, EYE (32) 89218-MAZ-000 1 $7.55
7 - SPANNER, PIN 89230-MB1-000 1 $15.12
8 - WRENCH (8X12) (OPEN END) 99001-08120 1 $2.33
9 - WRENCH (10X14) (OPEN END) 99001-10140 1 $2.57
10 - WRENCH (14X17) (OPEN END) 99001-14170 1 $3.01
12 - SCREWDRIVER 3 STRAIGHT SLOTNO 99003-30000 1 $1.00
14 - HANDLE, EYE WRENCH (120MM) 99006-12000 1 $2.64
15 - WRENCH, EYE (27MM) 99006-27000 1 $4.27

The first item, "BAG, SERVICE BOOK" is the zip-lock back that our operator's manual came in. You don't need it except for the fact that without it the price came in under $49 which was the cutoff for free shipping. Shipping is $8 so by not including the bag the total cost shipped would be $55.36 instead of $50.36.

FYI, item #5 (in the picture) is a hex wrench that is not available for purchase anywhere. The one we already have in our kit is item #6 (5mm hex). Honda must have changed something after they drew up and distributed that picture.

To those who've bought this complete kit, are you happy with it? My bike came with just a screwdriver, but being able to adjust the chain or even pull off a wheel on the road might be a nice safety precaution. (Never gotten a flat, but I can't imagine it's fun when you're out there by yourself).

I'm thinkin might be better off just buying a few sockets and stuff like that. Lots of room under that seat for it, that's for sure.

Bob I have always advised people to think about what kind of repairs they are personally capable of doing out on the road and carry the tools that will cover that. Adjusting and lubing a chain I can do. Plugging a flat I can do. Changing a fuse I can do. Pulling a battery I can do. So I carry the tools that will accomplish those tasks

I carry a small compressor and plug kit on my tail pack. On long trips I add mc jumper cables and a siphon pump, more for others than myself.
