Paint chip advice
#1
Cleaning my bike today and noticed a healthy chip in the lower front of the right side cover. I assume a stone was blame. Lots on the bottom of the engine too.

With the blacked out cover it feels like it could keep flaking or spreading. What's the best treatment? Matching touch up paint? Storing my baby in the living room?

I'd just remove anything that is loose, clean it, cover it with Por15, then go over it with a matching touch-up paint and forget about it.

I did some touch-up work on my case with standard Duplicolor and it has been on for a year with no issues. I did a thread on it under "Case Paint" BUT, your engine looks a lot glossier and darker than mine (which was sort of a matte charcoal from the factory). So it may not match.

But yeah, just sand the rust off, shoot a little primer on, then paint with matching paint you can also sand and cover with JB Weld (That s**t is AMAZING, but not perfectly black either). I've have found it cheap and easier to find matching paint than get that Color Rite garbage. It's expensive and almost never actually matches. I just go get several cans that look like they will match, use a single nozzle to test, and if they don't match, flip them over and blow them out. Then put a new nozzle back on.

I wouldn't spend Color Rite money for that, there's loads of gloss black touch up pens everywhere. You'll never see the difference.
