Must be punks who don't have enough coin to load the bike into a truck.
What's next to "protect" your ride?
If you had the opportunity to know someone was tampering with your ride 25 seconds into it, what would you have done next?
I'm really not sure about how to protect it. I live in an apartment building with a pretty secure gate/garage situation. There are other motorcycles in the garage - Ducati Scrambler, Africa Twin, Triumphs, etc... and those riders haven't seen anything like this. The shop guys I talked with definitely see this as attempted theft, so I've filed a police report and insurance claim so now it's in their hands. (so technically this thread doesn't belong in mech&tech anymore)
Regarding opportunity - I live in Texas. We are allowed to defend our property and ourselves with lethal force. So I'd probably wave a pistol around in a threatening manner or take out his/her kneecap.

OOF! Now that's TWO unpleasant images today!
These bikes have a simple 2-wire ignition switch. Surprised the thief couldn't get it started. Of course, he would also have to defeat the fork lock.
If you don't have a U-lock or heavy chain, that may be a good deterrent for a possible next time. Even a cover will help deter. Maybe the old hidden toggle switch from VW Bug days. Thieves are usually lazy and will look for something easier. I thought that perhaps you would date the mother instead !

That will probably be my plan - U-lock or chain plus a cover. If I could roll her into my apartment I'd totally do that.

If I understood correctly, your bike is protected from the elements in a parking garage. If that is correct, then you should not have to go to the extreme of the product you posted. I think what others have suggested, like a Covercraft cover with a cable cover lock, would work just fine. Consider, the product you posted is probably big enough for the thief to cut an entry slit with a knife, then go inside and work to his hearts content out of view of anyone passing by. Just the way I would look at it.

Ask if apt has video on premises. If so, ask them to post a sign that say so right by your bike. If they say no, buy or make a sign that says “These premises are under video survaillance” and post it by your bike.
I also think out of sight is best so even a cheap $25 pull over cover from Walmart will do what any cover will do—keep that initial thought of “cool bike! I think I’ll steal it” out of thief’s mind.

Hahahaha! Maybe they do. I’ll take the attempted theft of my motorcycle as flattery.
And yes, there is cell service in the garage.

Consider this:
Not quite GPS, but cellular triangulation. Events are sent directly to your cell phone. Incredibly reliable.

I added a modification to mine for motorcycle use:

In my case I can place it under the seat, or in a locked top box. You may have a better approach.
The moment the bike is moved, jarred, etc. I will get a notification about 25 seconds later. Unfortunately, it won't stop cut wires or other vandalism acts.

Seems like you guys never got the Honda HISS system like we did in Australia. I had a look at the wiring diagram and it looks like you only need to join those 2 wires from the ignition switch. I would be locking the steering. It will only keep the honest thieves away unfortunately because if they really want to take it they will figure out a way. Mine has HISS, steering locked and lives in a locked garage.

Most people I know lock the steering for sure when leaving the ride unattended. However, I know some that simply had their bikes lifted away. Clearly not a one person operation.

Sadly if someone wants your ride (motorcycle, car, truck, whatever) badly enough then they will likely find a way to take it. in the case of multiple motorcycles sitting around, the more difficult you make it for them to steal your bike the better the chance that they'll steal another motorcycle instead. Sad any way you look at it.
I have a small disc lock that I use along with a coiled tether that straps to the lock and over a hand grip. This fits neatly underneath my seat and I use it anywhere where I might be concerned about theft. The bright orange tether not only reminds me that I have the disc lock attached (you DO NOT want to forget this) but it warns others as well. It is not foolproof, someone could always just lift the bike into the back of a truck, but that would definitely take some extra effort and more than one person.
