Even if they say they are filled with oil, I'm still going to check to make sure. I don't have very good luck when it comes to stuff like this so you can bet that if I were to gamble and just trust that they were filled that I would get the set where the guy who was supposed to fill them forgot because he got scared by a bee.
I don't really feel like buying or installing the forks more than once.

If your bike was black like mine - the gold forks from the '17 might have looked pretty cool. If they would fit. Anybody know? I'm considering suspension upgrades instead of buying a third bike...

The gold forks from the RS will fit but you would have to buy new rotors, callipers and maybe wheels (the experts here will have to confirm that).

Ok: I'm going to ask the dumb question after reading a good portion of this thread: What's so important about suspension?
I've owned/ridden many different kinds of bikes, from cruisers to sport bikes to antiques, in a few different environments (not off-road), and i don't think i've ever noticed or thought anything good or bad about the suspension. If, hypothetically, I were to improve the suspension on my CB, what difference would I notice? I'm about the same weight as W/R, for instance, who complains of the suspension being "overwhelmed." I've never noticed anything that I would call a problem. What am I missing?

Improving suspension is important to me because of :
Comfort /ride quality
Confidence /road holding
Quality of shocks /how long do they last
Weight rider and luggage
There are probably other reasons people up grade : looks !

See, that's what i'm asking about. Either every bike i've ever ridden has bad suspension, or i'm completely numb and can't tell the difference. I'm wondering which one it is to see if there's any value at all in me improving my suspension. I guess it boils down to "are you comfortable on your bike right now?" The answer, so far as I can tell, is Yes, But i'm still paranoid that i'm missing out on something i can't fathom.

Well for me the main reason I'm upgrading is because of my back injury, quite simply without better suspension I would most likely have to sell my CB.
I probably wouldn't have realized that a better suspension would help me if I hadn't of purchased my Buell Ulysses which has a much better suspension. I have never owned a bike with performance suspension components like the Ulysses, like you I just accepted my bikes for what they were and rode on. I can't do that anymore.

That's what I was looking for. So, I'll conclude that an improved suspension won't do jackall for me at this time. gonna have to get a few decades older.
