Huge believer in the Rotella T6, but ended up using it in my ATVs and switched to Amsoil metric for the CB1100. 10W/40.

The V7 calls for 10w/60 and the Scrambler 10w/50.

The Rotella is still a candidate for the TDub.

If I could only have ONE oil for gas, diesel, auto, bike it would be Rotella T6.

But I can have anything I want, and switched to Amsoil for the CB1100. Bought into the marketing I guess.

I've had the same issues as Dac:

I think I may have been the first to post regarding heavier weight oil. I believe some bikes may have tighter passages than others and creates a lower knock in the motor. The same thing happens to Ford 5.4 Triton motors, running heavier oil creates a upper end block which blows head gaskets. Your bike may run fine but the oil is much thicker than 10-30 coming out of the bottle and @ temp.

Was on the road a few days and just came across this thread, hope this is helpful.

Strange, after reading in earlier posts about excess noise when using 10W/40 oil I switched back to the Honda 10W/30 to see if I could hear a difference. I could not hear any difference at all and Honda actually recommends using 10W/40 in areas of higher average temps. I did not switch to Rotella T6 until the second oil change and during initial breakin with the factory oil and after the first oil change with Honda synthetic 10W/30, I had been experiencing balky shifting into 5th gear with the motor fully warmed. Whether it was simply the extra miles put on, I don't know but the shifting problem vanished entirely when Rotella replaced the Honda 10W/30 at the second oil change.

The CB motor is inherently noisy anyway when compared to most liquid cooled bike motors. Pam's V-strom seems nearly "silent" in comparison.

Now, I take an oath not to comment in any more oil threads LOL.

I am quite sure Shell Rotella T will not hurt your motor. Too many people on too many forums using it with no adverse effects.

I don't care what any one eldse uses in their motorcycles, their business. Shell, Amsoil, Honda, Yamalube, oem filters, K&N filters, Bosch filters, they all have their advocates and detractors but bottom line is it's more important that it is changed on a regualr basis than what it is changed with or to. I am not personally aware of any catastrophic engine failures due to oil or oil filter types in the last 45 years.

I can tell you up until Dec 31, 2006 Honda recommended 10W40 for all of their 4 stroke motorcycle engines. As of Jan 1, 2007 Honda has recommended 10W30. Why that change of recommendation and why on that date is any body's guess. Some has said it's for emissions, or for gas mileage. Who really knows.

All I know is that for my 2006 ST 1300 Honda recomends 10w40 and for the 2007 ST 1300 which is identical other than paint, it recommends 10w30. My 2014 CB1100 DLX they recommend 10W30. ALL Hondas since Jan 1, 2007 they say 10W30. Why? who knows. They do make allowances in the owners manual and service manual to allow 10W40.

Bottom line, I recommend that you use what you have faith in and are comfortable using.
