Cb1100 handling (geometry questions)

I take your point but I think Honda are just a bit slow to catch on to the successful marketing techniques which their competitors are using in today's market. The current Honda range does little to inspire me, I just love the CB1100. Keep this to yourself but there is a rumour that Honda are planning to introduce a retro 500/4

The 500/4 while a nice rumor. I thinking just a rumor.. If it comes it won't be for a little bit.. The latest "classic" new has Honda looking at a cafe/scambler versions based upon the little cbr

Just enjoy it for what it is. Its a 540lbs standard bike with an adaquate yet soft suspension and made to just cruise around. When i first bought mine i complained that it was limited by factory on top end and this and that but became used to the fact that its just a modern retro old school ujm. You can change the bars and get upgraded suspension and have ecu reflashed, full exhaust to pep thjngs up and tweak it around a bit but at the end of the day its still a cb1100 not a cbr1000. Enjoy it for what it is and not what it could be if this and that. I modded mine to my liking and you will too. Ive learned to accept the true meaning of this bike. I really enjoy the bike now but down the road if i get board i know there are many many other options out there and companies are constantly improving on performance, quality, technology and stlyle. Who knows what i might like next year or five years from now. For now the cb1100 is my flavor.

There's a contradiction here, isn't there? You, Paulb and many other members of this forum have all 'modded [your bikes] to [your] liking' thereby taking your bike to 'what [you believe] it could be'. While I won't follow Paulb, I find his mod interesting because it shows the basic bones of the bike have significant potential for improvement.

Accept things for what they are....hmmmmm

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :-)

The cb1100 maybe the latest iteration of a ujm.. I know what it is and like it

That said, I love my wife too, but I really love her when she's wearing lingerie.. (Ok, I'm married, it's more like the good underwear).

I don't need a cbr1000, but I would like a cb1100 that is set for me.. As after all, it's my bike, so it's all about me (less my wife doesn't let me out)..

I'll admit, It's a sickness, if I really like a bike, I change it up a bit.. So I guess I don't want to get well...

Changing fenders, the seat, a slip on pipe, handlebars and levers does not change the fact that it is a cb1100. Stock engine, stock suspension, stock frame makes it a stock bike with personal bling. Kind of like when the wife puts on make up and does her hair to go out to dinner, she may look nice at the moment but at the end of the night its the same person. Lol:-) Remember that most of the mods we do are just for looks or noise and do not change the class of bike. You don't start with a naked standard and end up with a super sport race bike.

True, you'll never turn it into a super sport racer, but once you get past the cosmetic mods you've identified and start playing with suspension or the ECU, it would seem you can make significant improvement.

"Improvement" is subjective and depends on the person who makes the observation. A few more horses, upgraded suspension or whatever makes the bike different and, in the mind of the owner, improved. That's good. But for others who like the bike as it is, or with a bit of bling, maybe not so. Some don't seem to have the urge to do much to the bike to "improve" it apart from some bits, heated grips, softer seat or a rack for instance, to make the bike suitable for their use.

This forum throws up some different ideas, very few, thankfully, that give me that subjective "eeeeuw" feeling. Keep it coming guys.

Cheers
I like some of the "wife metaphors" this thread has thrown up and was, myself, tempted to do the same. However, there is a risk, minuscule but still a risk, that Darling might read and then, sadly, I would certainly never fork another horse.

Cheers again

For me this is all about riding style. To use movies to illustrate, I'm more 'The Wild One' than 'Easy Rider'. I was at the first showing of Easy Rider in the UK and it was a culture shock to see cool guys riding slowly, laid back and chilling (am I using old man vocabulary ?). We have never had a cruiser culture in the UK, there are a few Harley's now but not many. Here it was all about speed and racing. Ride to work on your bike all week and then race it at the weekend. I read recently that during the development of the Ducati Diavel X the designers were sent to America and made to cruise around for several weeks so they could learn what the cruising culture is all about. I want a retro, cool bike that that can keep pace with modern machinery. The Bandit 1200 I had came close but it wasn't a 'looker'. The CB1100 with new suspension now works for me. I would like 100bhp but I don't want a radiator to achieve it. My perfect bike? Lets see what comes out in the next couple of years.

The new triumph thruxton R 1200 is going to fit the bill for a lot of people and is already turning heads on this forum and is going to steal some customers. What a beautiful retro classic and performance as well.
