It was an ignominious end to the career of chief stylist Virgil Exner, who had created the fabulous 1957 "Forward Look" across all the marque's brands from bottom to top:
In high school, '80-82, I drove a 1963 Plymouth Belvedere with push-button transmission... if you've never seen PRNDL button format on the dash (0:40 second mark, buttons on the left-- but this is right side steering version):
