The purported valve timing made out of sync between the various engine cylinders has been talked about quite frequently here as Honda engineers have detailed their approach to making the engine a bit rougher in order to make it "rumble" and give pleasant vibrations around 3k RPMs. Ironic since it's one of the smoothest motors most of us has ever experienced on a motorcycle, especially down low. It's certainly far smoother than my twin that could shake the fillings out of my teeth if lugged in the wrong gear. Also, the "tinking" and "pinging" the engine fins were supposedly designed to do during cooldown have never happened on mine after riding. It was always the headers and exhaust making the noises which was confirmed when I swapped the stock system for the full Yoshi system and now my bike makes absolutely no noises after a ride.
