Since we're on the topic of JIS screw drivers, and it may be another twelve years till we return to the topic,
I have a question:
I stripped a bolt head or two on my CL175 before I realized JIS was a thing. Bought some JIS driver bits, and resumed the job using the correct JIS bit and an impact driver. I stripped even a perfect bolt head using the JIS bit and driver (and a good amount of pressure).
So, I drilled out all three stripped bolt heads which held on the the clutch cover. To my amazement, after the heads were drilled off, the remaining bolts came out easily by hand, all looking shiny and new.
My question is, did the bolt heads corrode and freeze themselves to the clutch cover over 56 years, while the threads remained in perfect condition? Is this common? Is it better to use a hand JIS screw driver rather than an impact driver? If an impact driver, more pressure or less?
I'll probably replace all the JIS with hex head bolts eventually, but I would like to not have to drill out every bolt head.
