All the sensors, except the O2, remain hooked up and continue to act on the ecu, except the O2 is replaced by resistors so that the ecu sees its input as a constant signal. I don't know what that constant signal is. The PCV doesn't prevent the ecu from doing anything it could do before. It adds or subtracts fuel from the injector signal after whatever map and trims the ecu is putting out. It does not lock in or change the ecu or anything that happens within the ecu. As well, anything the ecu cannot do before, it still cannot do after installing the PCV..... such as retard and advance timing for low and high octane gas.

Right, the computer won't do anything it didn't do before, but it uses the O2 sensor to set the fuel ratio based on the efficiency of the current burn. So, if you change altitudes regularly, the ECU can no longer compensate for thinner air, crappy gas, etc. The PCV basically puts the ECU into (virtual) open-loop mode all the time.
