Torque settings (oil change)

My stock filter was tightened to at least 800 pound feet. Took an immense amount of work to get it off! Hand tightened the hell out of the new filter.

Hard to believe how difficult it can be to remove the original oil filter on some bikes. The first oil change I did on my wife's '07 V-strom, I drove a screw driver through the filter body and still could not free it. A 24" pipe wrench and some elbow grease finally got it.

I've read that failure to lube the filter O ring is the usual cause.

Hand tighten only and always lube the filter O ring.
