At the risk of starting an oil filter thread; if you do a cursory internet search on the quality of oil filters you may change your purchasing habits. Now most cheap and cheaply built and poor quality oil filters will probably not cause any issues if you change your oil every 2000 miles. Considering just how inexpensive Honda filters are in the grand scheme of things (Moto Guzzi's have an abuse oiling system an UNI brand filters can take the pressures which make those engines fussier than most on oil filter choice).
For cars and trucks I'd steer you to Wix or Motocraft (I've been running Fords hence the Motocraft, gotta find out what to use on the Outback).
I'll go on record stating that Fram should be avoided - unless you are a frequent oil changer.
It's too late now, but at roughly 500 miles I would think the oil in the inspection window would have looked darker than usual; new oil being a light amber color. That may have been a clue you had changed oil.
