The ABS models have speed sensors on both wheels, ABS kicks in when the control unit senses a difference in front/back wheel speeds.

I understand. But don't both ABS and NON ABS run the speedometer from the rear?

to add: I can run the ST on the center stand and it reads speed. It has ABS.
