Try changing the fluid.
Just did mine after 2 1/2 years on the original, much firmer now. It's a time thing with brake fluid as much as miles. Should have done mine a while back.
It's not difficult. takes about an hour tops. You don't need to bleed from empty which can be a pain, just pump the old fluid thru and to up with new, till the new stuff comes out and no bubbles.
Another top tip:
After you've replaced the fluid, or just try it anytime really, pull in the brake lever and keep it pulled tight with a cable tie round the bars. Leave it like that overnight.
It helps remove any air from the system apparently. Not completely sure how but it works for me.
