Same here Vince, cb550 is barely noticeable compared to cb1100.
the primary gearshaft and the plates in the clutch basket just take a lot of stopping when engaged in first and it gets more pronounced with higher idle speed, like others have said make it a deliberate tap, just quick enough without forcing the mechanism.
and when shifting between gears try to get the revs in sync (anticipate ) so the difference is minimal
As far as the gear scratching; can you hear anything with engine off on centerstand and rotating rear wheel in either direction and can you make a video so we have a better idea?
