For what it’s worth, I run a coax line (heated gear) and an sae line (charger) directly to the battery. I have a dual USB port mounted to the bar for my phone and my Spot Gen 3 that runs from the headlight bucket connection. Prior to installing the USB port, I used an SAE-USB adapter like the one in your link directly to the battery. I have had no trouble with this setup in 28,000 miles.
