Don Guhl No Longer Tuning Motorcycle ECUs
#1

Looks like Guhl Motors is no longer flashing motorcycle ECUs. Link to their site and a copy/paste of the notice on the page with particular information bolded.

https://guhlmotors.com/ecu-reflashing/

ECU modifications for any vehicle with a VIN number or registration are not supported. Please do not send any ECUs from any vehicles that have a VIN number, have had a VIN number or any vehicle that is or can be street driven. This includes ALL motorcycles. Any motorcycle ECU sent to us will not be modified and will only be returned at the owner’s expense.

Looks more like legal trouble to me. I haven't been on here much lately but this was sad news to see after not checking in for awhile.

I hope someone else will pick up the torch, especially for those of us that have already had the initial flash and needed updates to the ECU as we modify the bikes.

I think I’m going mad. I’m sure I read this information on the forum once before, but I’m blowed if I can find it again. Sad, but inevitable, I guess.

Your ign map won't need changing if you are playing with airflow.

So if you already have a guhl tune that derestricted the bike, adjusted the ign timing, raised the rev and speed limiter - you are good.

Any fueling changes you want can be done with a power commander.

That's the EPA causing this. They have been fining various business that have been tuning, or selling parts that they deem to be for the purpose of circumventing emission controls.
It's a shame because the EPA wants to prevent people from modifying any vehicle that ever had a VIN, even is that vehicle is to be never used on road ever again.
In other words if you want a racecar the vehicle and engine can never of had a VIN...period.
If they are allowed to continue with this path, the entire parts aftermarket industry is doomed and a lot of people will be put out of work.
Billions of dollars will be flushed down the toilet in an instant.

EPA is closing a loop hole. Kinda surprised it took this long. The writing is on the wall for gas and diesel engines. Hydrogen and electrics (and perhaps a wild card not on the radar) are the future - pretty much after most of us are dead or having had our drivers licenses revoked. Smile

Jobs and parts industry: Meh. There will be new jobs and new parts to make - just like when cars replaced horses.
