Been recovering from a bout with septic shock from a kidney stone removal. I woke up unable to walk, high fever, BP out of the low 40s, kidneys shut down, ice packed around me to bring the fever down, and the ER was preparing me for a ventilator and life support. My priest came and anointed me since death is common in these situations. Fast forward 4 days later and I'm walking out on my own power. Doctors pleasantly surprised, my wife is happy, and beyond some low electrolytes and temporary anemia, I am alive and well, no apparent organ damage. Still very tired, don't trust myself to ride yet but hopefully in a few more weeks I'll be straddling the CB and being opinionated here. Very few forums I am returning to, this one is the best. I had zero fear of death during the event, I was ready and prepared. But it is a blessing to still be here, I have decided that I have zero time to mess with negativity.

I'm eastern orthodox, we don't have last rites like the western church but the priest comes out to annoint, perhaps hear a confession, and pray. It wasn't good, another was there with the same thing and was dead in 6 hours. Less than 50% survival rate at best depending on how soon they get you in the ER. When I arrived by ambulance they were running around sticking iv's and saying they had an half hour. After I was sent to critical care, that's usually where cardiac arrest happens and the end comes. Doctor says I dodged a bullet this time,
