I'm referencing the Honda Service Manual. It says the same thing in the Owner's Manual. 5.2 quarts if you disassemble the engine.

So what I was seeing was the 'if you take the engine apart' values. Makes sense now! I ended up pulling it back in and draining another (wait, it's a shocker) quart out. It's now almost perfectly between the high/low lines, which would give it...4 quarts. Oh well. Live and learn. I enjoyed it so no real loss. Can you point me in the direction of that service manual? I want to do the brakes next time I've got a free weekend, and I hate pestering people online every 5 minutes. Google shows me a couple, but always like to get recommendations from actual users on which is good/worth buying.

I believe Helm and Honda are the only legit sources for a new shop manual. I've seen some bootleg and used manuals occasionally available on Ebay.
Here's the Helm link : http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp...ku=61MGC01

If you had looked at the thread popgun linked to in post 4 of this thread you would have seen the 4.1 qt spec.

I just coughed up the dough for the printed manual, it's come in very handy many times. Got quite a few greasy thumbprints on the pages now.
