I think the only time CB1100 "ticking" caught my attention was maybe idling in stopped hot, humid, no wind, summer congested traffic. Probably challenging the Honda GN4 oil that was simmering in the lump.
Still, it could have been the injectors as they would have heated up too from lump radiation.
